Lake Pointe Estates History

The city of Katy used to be known as Cane Island. The creek that runs through the area was filled with the cane, thought to have been planted by fur trappers. By the mid-1890s, the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (or the MKT) began operating through Cane Island.

A town was laid out around and named for the railroad (the “KT”). Today, the city of Katy and the much larger 181-square mile Greater Katy area is one of the best suburbs in Houston. Great schools and rapid development have made it quite popular over the years.
