Tanglewilde was developed from the 1950s to the 1970s. The neighborhood is within Harris County, one of the biggest counties in Texas.

Harris County was originally Harrisburg County in 1836. It changed its name to Harris County in 1839. It was named after John Richardson Harris, who founded the county.
