I recently read a great article from Tierre Grande about the Texas economy. It had some great statistics about Texas' growth, including:
- Texas' population had a larger numerical increase from 2000 - 2006 than any other state, and a growth rate (12.7%) twice that of the nation.
- From 2000 the population grew from 20.9 million (4/1/00) to 23.5 million (7/1/06)
- Houston, San Antonio and Forth Worth had the largest increases.
- If this trend continues, Texas is likely to add another 3.6 to 4 million people by 2010, boosting its total population to more than 25 million.
- Texas has three of the country's ten largest cities
- Houston ranks the 4th largest city in the US with a population of more than 2.1 million (7/1/06)
In addition, Tory Gattis over at http://houstonstrategies.blogspot.com/ has some good information on the Houston economy and it's growth. Does anyone else have some other good Houston blogs on the economy?
