Houston residents now have been given the go-ahead to use city water without boiling it.
Mayor Bill White lifted a boil-water order on Monday that had been imposed after Hurricane Ike hit the city on Saturday. Mayor White said the city's water supply has been tested and no widespread contamination has been detected.
The mayor said that water pressure has been restored to normal levels. He said some high-rise structures had disabled pumps and were unable to get water to the highest floors.
