Downtown Houston is getting into the holiday spirit!
The City of Houston lights the official tree in front of City Hall on Friday, December 5 at 6 p.m.
With music by artists like Kirk Whalum and Lakisha Jones, fireworks and an appearance by Santa, the Mayor's Official Holiday Celebration is a perfect, and free, beginning to a magical night for the whole family.
After the tree has been lit (with energy-saving LED lights, of course), treat yourself to a horse-drawn carriage ride and explore the twinkling sights of a downtown all wrapped up for the holidays.
Or hop on a trolley and head over to the Ice at Discovery Green, where Friday nights feature music spun by Hot 95.7's best DJs. Sip some hot chocolate or a mug of tasty cider while you watch skaters spin around the rink or hop on the ice yourself.
Be sure to remember the spirit of the season as well that day by participating in Reliant Energy's Red Ribbon Toy Drive, benefiting AIDS Foundation Houston. Reliant Energy will give away twinkling Santa hats to those who donate a new, unwrapped toy the morning of the celebration between 7-9 a.m. at City Hall.
Volunteers will be standing by on McKinney so you don't even have to park your car. If that hour is too early, you can still bring your donation to the celebration that evening. Just look for the big drop-off bins!
