Alief homes are conveniently located on major roads and thoroughfares. Westpark Tollway borders it to its north, Highway 6 to its west, U.S. 90 and Interstate 69 to its south, and Beltway 8 to its east.

The major streets of Beechnut, Bellaire, and Bissonnet run through the neighborhood. Bus lines in the area make commuting to Houston’s hubs easy.

Alief enjoys close proximity to several shops and restaurants in the area and is known for its international flavors. The Hong Kong City Mall is also located within the community, and Meyerland Plaza and the Galleria are also a short drive away.

Alief is a historic neighborhood that started development as early as 1861 in what was then primarily pastureland. Alief was one of the prosperous farming communities in Houston, with two railways in the area spurring commercial development. Alief continued its development throughout the 1990s to the 2000s, experiencing decline and redevelopment similar to other neighborhoods in the area such as Sharpstown.

With several subdivisions, townhomes, and apartment complexes in the area, Alief features diverse real estate options that are relatively more affordable compared to nearby areas.

Alief homes are mostly done in traditional architectural styles, but contemporary modern designs are also available. Most homes in the area sit on large lots averaging 7,500 square feet, with larger properties having more than 10,000 square feet.
