Boulevard Oaks TX History


Boulevard Oaks development began in the 1920s to the early 1930s. Broadacres, Edgemont, and Ormond Place are the earliest subdivisions in the area.

In 1924, West Edgemont started development, followed by West Ormond Place, Chevy Chase, and Vassar Place. Real estate developers initialized other nearby subdivisions from 1930 to 1940.

Houston is a relatively young city, only developing into a major metropolis starting in the 20th century, yet it has a lot of historic places. The National Register of Historic Places designated the Boulevard Oaks Historic District as a historic district on February 22, 2002. This designation is due to the many older homes designed by Houston’s premier architects of their time.

The Boulevard Oaks Historic District consists mainly of the North and South Boulevards between the Southwest Freeway and Rice University.
