Made up of 21 subdivisions, Boulevard Oaks is nestled north of Rice University, east of Upper Kirby, south of Montrose, and west of the Museum District.
Boulevard Oaks is bordered by the Southwest Freeway to the north, Morningside to the west, Bissonnet to the south, and Graustark/Parkway to the east.
The Texas Medical Center is under a 10-minute drive from Boulevard Oaks. It is one of the largest healthcare and medical research facilities in the country. Featuring more than 50 hospitals, schools, and institutions, the Med Center is also one of Houston’s major employment centers with over 100,000 employees and volunteers.
Downtown Houston, located about 4 miles northwest of Boulevard Oaks, is home to more than 3,500 business and 150,000 workers.

Boulevard Oaks development began in the 1920s to the early 1930s. Broadacres, Edgemont, and Ormond Place are the earliest subdivisions in the area.
In 1924, West Edgemont started development, followed by West Ormond Place, Chevy Chase, and Vassar Place. Other nearby subdivisions were initialized by real estate developers throughout 1930 to 1940.
Houston is a relatively young city, only developing into a major metropolis starting in the 20th century, yet it has a lot of historic places. The National Register of Historic Places designated the Boulevard Oaks Historic District as a historic district in February 22, 2002. This designation is due to the many older homes designed by Houston’s premier architects of their time.
