Chartered in 1951, Braeswood Place’s development started in the late 40s. Like most Houston neighborhoods during the period, the area was made up of single-family ranch-style homes.
During the 1990s, concerned residents formed the Stella Link Redevelopment Association (SLRA), a group dedicated to rehabilitating parts of the neighborhood. The efforts of the association and with help from the city and private parties led to the creation of the Stella Link Park community service corridor.
The large 4-block area is now home to two area schools (Pershing Middle School and Mark Twain Elementary School), the McGovern-Stella Link Library, the Weekley Family YMCA, and McGovern Park.
