Groveton TX History
Groveton is at the crossroads of State Highway 94 and U.S. Highway 287. It is the county seat of Trinity County, Texas.
It was founded in 1881 by the Trinity County and Sabine Pass Land and Railway Company. It quickly grew around a lumber mill and got its name from the nearby groves of blackjack trees.
As the town grew, it became the county seat in 1882, boasting a new courthouse and post office.
Despite challenges like mill closures and lawlessness, Groveton persevered. It was aided by community collaboration and government programs. These included the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Work Projects Administration.
Today, over a thousand people live in Groveton. It still thrives as a center for logging, fun, stores, and small manufacturing. It is in Trinity County.
