Humble real estate can be tricky to navigate. Some areas in and around the city feature older homes which may need extensive renovations. Newer homes are available within the city’s new construction communities and other areas nearby, including Fall Creek and Kings Lake.
Located about 18 miles northeast of downtown Houston, Humble is a small independent city that spans 9.9-square miles. The city sits just outside the Beltway.
It is nestled south of Kingwood, west of Atascocita, east of Spring, and the George Bush Intercontinental Airport, and north of Fall Creek.
Highway 59 (also known as I-69 or Eastex Freeway) cuts through the city of Humble, connecting south to Beltway 8 and downtown Houston. Following the highway north leads to Porter, New Caney, and Grand Parkway.
Thanks to Humble’s location, key areas like the airport, The Woodlands, and downtown Houston are a short drive away.
Formerly an oil boomtown, the city has grown into a bustling hub with its numerous retail and dining spots. The Deerbrook Mall, with more than 1,200,000 square feet of retail space is located just off Highway 59.
As an independent city, Humble operates a council-manager form of government. It also has its own fire and police departments. Its Parks Department operates and maintains 4 parks, namely Hirsch Memorial Park, Schott Park, Timberwood Park, and Uptown Park.
Many neighborhoods outside the city’s borders have Humble addresses, including Bordersville (Houston), Fall Creek (Houston) and unincorporated areas in Harris County.

Single-family homes are the most popular option in Humble. Options in the area range from one-story traditional homes to new construction estate-style homes in gated communities. With so many options available, you can choose a home that fits both your needs and budget.
Humble homes can offer 3- to 5-bedroom floor plans spread over 1,200 to more than 6,500 square feet of living space. Lot sizes range from 5,000 to upwards of 90,000 square feet.
There are plenty of new construction homes in the area. New construction communities with estate-style homes (and smaller traditional homes) have become quite popular in the area.
Some of the oldest Humble homes date back to 1910.
Humble homes for sale can start at around $50,000. These homes are mostly older properties, some of which may require extensive renovations.
The most expensive homes in the Humble area are new construction properties within master-planned communities. These Humble homes can sell between $700,000 to more than $2,000,000.
Styles and designs vary in the area’s many neighborhoods and communities. Traditional and modern/contemporary homes are common.
Some Humble neighborhoods offer townhomes, many of which are of recent construction.
Eagle Springs, Deerbrook Estates, Intercontinental Village, and Fall Creek are just some of the Humble area neighborhoods and communities with townhome options.
Humble townhomes often feature 2 to 3 bedrooms with 2 to 3 baths. Two-story floor plans are common. Home features vary, though most offer attached garages, first floor living areas, and media/game rooms.
Architecture-wise, most Humble townhomes lean toward traditional aesthetics with brick and wood or brick veneer and cement board exteriors.
Home sizes range from 1,200 to 2,300 square feet and lot sizes range from 1,500 to 5,000 square feet.
Prices start at under $100,000 though newer Humble townhomes for sale can sell for $240,000 and up.
Like most Houston suburbs, condos are not very popular in Humble. There are some multi-family homes in the area, though if you’re interested in a loft or condo, there are more options in The Woodlands, the Houston Heights, and downtown.

Joseph Dunman is believed to be the first settler in what is now Humble, moving to the area in 1828.
Pleasant Smith Humble, after whom the area is named, purchased land along the San Jacinto River and operated a ferry. Humble later began operating a post office out of his home and became justice of the peace as well.
Taking advantage of the area’s lush surroundings, C.O. Bender opened a sawmill in Humble. Soon, the small community flourished through the lumber trade.
In the early 1900s, oil was discovered in Humble. People moved to the area and Humble saw rapid growth. Local entrepreneurs formed the Humble Oil and Refining Company, now known as Exxon.
As the oil boom slowed down, residents returned to truck farming and lumbering.
In 1933, the small town moved to incorporate. The city of Humble now operates a council-manager form of government with a mayor, 5 council members, and a city manager.
Several factors contributed to Humble’s subsequent growth, including the completion of the Eastex Freeway (Highway 59) and the Houston Intercontinental Airport.
Deerbrook Mall, located along Highway 59, offers a number of retail and dining options. The mall features 140+ stores and restaurants spread over 1,200,000 square feet of retail space. Anchor stores include Dick’s Sporting Goods, Dillard’s, Forever 21, JCPenney, Macy’s, and Sears.
Residents can also opt to take the short drive to the Golf Club of Houston, located in nearby Fall Creek. The Golf Club of Houston features both a public tournament course and a private member-only course. The club showcases a 18-hole par-72 Rees Jones and David Toms-designed course with a 75.8 course rating and a 138 slope rating.
The club’s Tournament Course hosts the Shell Houston Open, a PGA Tour event.
The city of Humble maintains a few parks, including Hirsch Park, Schott Park, Timberwood Park, and Uptown Park.
Schott Park, located along Will Clayton Parkway, covers 24 acres and features an open air pavilion, picnic areas, playgrounds, a half-court basketball area, and a walking path.
Residents can also visit the Humble Civic Center and the Senior Activity Center.
Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center is also a popular destination in the area. The 321-acre nature preserve features a Nature Center, historical recreations (Rosebud Hill Homestead and Akokisa-Ishak Indian Village), a picnic loop and playgrounds. The park also hosts several nature-centric programs including Tadpoles Club and Summer Nature Camp.
