Governors Place is among the most established neighborhoods in Greater Katy, with homes built during the 1980s to the 1990s. There are a variety of home types in the area, including bungalows, ranch-style homes, and two-story traditional homes.
The neighborhood has around 500 single-family homes. Governors Place homes typically offer 3- to 4-bedroom floor plans, though some properties can feature as many as 5. Most homes in the area have mature trees, well kept yards, and 2-car garages.
Home sizes typically range from 2,000 to around 3,500 square feet. Governors Place homes tend to sit on mid-sized lots (by Houston standards), with sizes between 7,500 to 9,000 square feet.
The neighborhood has older homes (compared to some of Greater Katy’s newer master-planned communities), and while some have been updated, properties in the area tend to be more affordable.

Built between the early 1980s and the late 1990s, Governors Place is among the more established neighborhoods in Greater Katy. It was built during a period when demand for housing was again increasing in the area.
The city of Katy, and its surrounding neighborhoods, was a sparsely populated area during the 1890s. In 1895, the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad started operating in the area and inspired growth. Rice farms and cattle ranches were established in the surrounding areas around the then small town of Katy, while sawmills prospered farther east.
A number of factors brought more growth into the area, including the post-WWII Houston housing boom (which and the completion of Interstate 10 (which made for easier commutes to downtown Houston).
During the 1970s and 1980s, a number of subdivisions and master-planned communities broke ground in Greater Katy, including Cinco Ranch, Green Trails, and Kelliwood. Compared to these communities, Governors Place is smaller, and featured mid-sized lots and traditional style homes.
Today, Governors Place is still a desirable community, thanks to its central location, easy commutes, and excellent schools.
Governors Place features a few community amenities, located along Governors Place Drive. The recreation center has a swimming pool, two tennis courts, and a clubhouse.
For retail and entertainment, residents don’t have to look too far, as there are plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars, and parks nearby. Commercial establishments along Grand Parkway and Mason Road are minutes away from Governors Place homes.
Katy Mills Mall, a large retail center with over 170 stores, is a couple of miles west of the neighborhood. The mall features H&M, Fossil, Michael Kors, Kenneth Cole, and Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, among others. Another retail hotspot, LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch is also highly accessible from the community.
Residents also have great access to golf courses (Club at Falcon Point, Golf Club at Cinco Ranch, and Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club) and other outdoor activity hubs (George Bush Park).
