Green Trails, like most of the Greater Katy and west Houston areas, were mostly rural during the early 1900s. Two main things sparked growth in the area during the 1960s: Houston’s westward expansion and housing boom, and the construction of Interstate 10 (Katy Freeway).
Nearby George Bush Park, formerly Cullen-Barker, opened in the 1940s. The 7,800-acre park, along with the area now known as Green Trails, belonged to the Stephen F. Austin colony. Later, ranchers purchased land in the area.
Green Trails was built much later, between the early 1980s up to the mid-2000s. Its mature trees, picturesque homes, and winding streets still provide a great draw for homebuyers. The neighborhood’s exemplary schools and excellent location are also major factors to Green Trails’ continued popularity.
Thanks to the neighborhood’s location, Green Trails residents have plenty of retail, dining, and entertainment options within minutes of their home.
Retail stores, restaurants, and cafes line areas around Green Trails, particularly along S Fry Road and Interstate 10. Across the freeway, residents can visit more retail and dining establishments within the Westgate Market Place.
For outdoor pursuits, residents have a 7,800-acre park practically next door: the George Bush Park. The park offers a number of amenities, including a shooting range, sports fields (soccer, baseball, and softball), playgrounds, pavilions, and miles of hike-and-bike trails. It even has a field for flying model aircraft.
The community itself does have some amenities available including a swimming pool, parks, tennis courts, and several playgrounds.
