During its early history, the city of Katy was known as Cane Island. The creek that runs through the area was filled with cane, thought to have been planted there by fur trappers. By mid-1890s, the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (or the MKT) began operation, running through Cane Island.

A town was laid out around and named for the railroad (the “KT”). Today, the city of Katy and the much larger 181-square mile Greater Katy area is one of the best suburbs in Houston. Great schools and rapid development have made it quite popular over the years.

Katy Mills, a shopping center with more than a million square feet in retail space, is minutes away from Lake Pointe Estates homes. Opened in 1999, the mall is located just off Kingsland Boulevard. Anchor stores include Off 5th Saks Fifth Avenue, Mashalls, Last Call Neimann Marcus, Old Navy, and AMC Theatres, among others.

LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch, on the other hand, is about 2 miles southeast of Lake Pointe Estates. The upscale mixed-use development features restaurants, stores, boutiques, office spaces, and apartments. It covers a 34-acre area off Cinco Ranch Boulevard.

For outdoor activities, Lake Pointe Estates residents don’t have to stray far from home. The community’s 20-acre lake is perfect for kayaking and paddle boating.
