Pine Forest TX History

Once a small town along the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, Katy was previously known as Cane Island (for the creek that still runs through the area). The railroad brought growth around the largely untouched prairie land during the late 1890s.

Many farmers and ranchers settled in the area, and in particular, rice farming flourished during the period.

In 1945, Katy was incorporated into a municipality, with its borders covering a 10.7-square mile area.

Many factors brought more development in the area, including the completion of Interstate 10 and Houston’s westward expansion. A number of master-planned communities, like Cinco Ranch, Green Trails, and Kelliwood, were developed in what is now known as the Greater Katy area.

Meanwhile, the city of Katy also saw residential growth within its borders. Pine Forest is one of Katy’s older neighborhoods, featuring around 145 homes built during the late 1970s up to the mid-1980s.

Today, the neighborhood of Pine Forest still has an old town vibe, with its spacious wooded lots, ranch-style homes, and quiet cul-de-sacs.
