Kingwood TX History

The Foster Lumber Company used to own a part of the land that later became the Kingwood community. They had possessed this land since around 1892. Eventually, on December 28, 1967, the Foster Family sold the land to a partnership between the King Ranch and the Friendswood Development Company.

The historic King Ranch developed the Kingwood community along with the Friendswood Development Company. This joint effort aimed to transform a previously empty tract of land into what is now known as Kingwood.

The King Ranch, famous as the “Birthplace of American Ranching,” stands as one of the oldest and largest active ranches in the United States. Its history dates to 1853 when Captain Richard King travelled from Brownsville for the Lone Star Fair in Corpus Christi. This journey eventually led to the establishment of the ranch.

Today, Kingwood is a bustling and growing community. This master-planned neighborhood has retained its close-to-nature ambiance and suburban feel.
