Kingwood South TX History

Kingwood South is part of the larger Kingwood master-planned neighborhood. It is renowned for its picturesque natural environment, offering an abundance of lush green spaces, parks, and scenic trails.

The development of Kingwood began in 1967 when a joint venture between King Ranch and the Friendswood Development Company (an Exxon subsidiary) purchased the land. The name "Kingwood" was chosen to reflect this association.

The first village, Trailwood Village, opened in 1971, and Kingwood adopted the slogan "The Livable Forest" to highlight its heavily forested character, nature preserves, parks, and greenbelt development. In 1996, Kingwood was annexed by the City of Houston.
