Located about 50 miles southeast of Downtown Houston, La Marque is a 14-square mile city in Galveston County.
La Marque sits a few miles outside of Beltway 8, south of League City and Friendswood, two of the best suburbs in Houston.
La Marque’s real estate market can be tricky to navigate due to the number of individual neighborhoods and homes available. Homebuyers will find it beneficial to consult a top realtor familiar with La Marque for assistance.
La Marque is an incorporated residential community along Interstate Highway 45, State Highway 3, and Farm roads 519, 1765, and 2004, about 13 miles from Galveston and 30 miles to the Inner Loop.
The community was formerly known as Highlands, probably due to its location near Highland Creek. It was renamed to La Marque in the 1890s by then postmistress Madam St. Ambrose, when residents learned that another community was named Highland.
Most of La Marque is zoned to the Texas City Independent School District (TCISD). La Marque High School serves that portion.
Small portions of the community are served by other ISD, such as the Hitchcock Independent School District, Dickinson Independent School District, and the Santa Fe Independent School District. The city is served by the College of the Mainland.
Employment and business centers in Galveston Bay, the NASA Johnson Space Center, and Houston are highly accessible from La Marque real estate.
The city offers a great selection of homes, including beautiful traditional homes on sprawling lots, updated ranch-style homes, and new construction homes.
La Marque features mostly single-family homes. Three- or four-bedroom homes are common, though the smaller and older properties have up to two bedrooms. Homes come in different architectural styles, including traditional, modern, contemporary, and ranch.
La Marque homes for sale prices start at around $60,000 and can go up to $400,000.
La Marque homes are largely zoned to the Texas City Independent School District (TCISD), rated by the Texas Education Agency as “Academically Acceptable.” It has has 14 schools and serving more than 6,000 students.
Schools zoned to La Marque include Renaissance Academy rated 7/10 by GreatSchools.org, and La Marque High School.
