Piney Point Village TX Neighborhood Guide
Located in the southernmost part of the Memorial Villages, Piney Point Village has Hedwig and Katy Fwy to the north, Hunters Creek to the west, Bunker Hill to the east, and the Buffalo Bayou to the south.
Like Hunters Creek Village, most of Piney Point rests north of the bayou. A small area rests south of the bayou.
Piney Point can trace its roots back to the early days of Texas. In 1824, John D. Taylor was a part of Stephen F. Austin’s Old Three Hundred. Taylor was granted a league of land centered on “pine point.” The neighborhood’s name was derived from Taylor’s house – Piney Point.
By 1885, Piney Point was a station on the Texas Western Railroad. German farmers had settled around the area.
Development in Piney Point started in earnest during Houston’s suburban boom in the 1950s and 60s. Houston, along with surrounding areas, grew this period. Subdivisions for upper-middle-class families were developed along the Buffalo Bayou.
At the time, the city of Houston was looking to expand its borders and annexed unincorporated neighborhoods outside the Inner Loop. As a way to preserve its residential zoning and country-living way of life, Piney Point Village filed a petition for incorporation along with the other Memorial Villages.
Incorporated in 1955, Piney Point has an alderman form of government.
It shares the Village Fire Department and the Memorial Villages Water Authority with the other villages. With Bunker Hill and Hunters Creek, Piney Point operates the Memorial Village Police Department.
Today, Piney Point Village maintains its strictly residential zoning with deed restrictions banning any form of business within its borders. Its tree-lined streets complement the area’s serene and private atmosphere.
The majority of the Piney Point Village is under the 77024 zip code, while the area that sits south of the Buffalo Bayou has the 77063 Harris County zip code.
