Homes within Richmond city limits are zoned to Lamar Consolidated ISD schools, while homes within the city's ETJ are zoned to both LCISD and Fort Bend ISD.

Fort Bend Independent School District (FBISD) covers a 170-square-mile area and serves Sugar Land, Meadows Place, Richmond, Pearland, and some parts of Houston. The TEA gave the FBISD a "Recognized" rating and was named a National School District of Character in 2011 by the National Schools of Character Program.

Lamar Consolidated Independent School District, or Lamar CISD, received a "Met Standard" rating from the Texas Education Agency in 2013. It was given an Excellence in Education award by HEB in 2009.

Richmond TX History


Robert Eden Handy and William Lusk established the town in 1837, selling parcels in the area. Richmond was named after a town in England and is of the cities comprised under the Republic of Texas. It became the center of government for Fort Bend County in the same year.

Some early residents in Richmond include Jane Long, Deaf Smith, and Mirabeau B. Lamar.

The Buffalo Bayou, Brazos, and Colorado Railway (BBB&C) spread tracks through the city in 1855. With appreciation to the railway, Richmond flourished on sugar, cotton, and shipping cattle. The area went to oil production from agriculture (a major industry) in the mid-1930s.

People began moving to Richmond in the 1940s and continued well into the 1980s. Some new construction master-planned developments today are within the city's boundaries and ETJ. It contributes to the general growth of the area. Richmond Trail is one of the community-wide improvements of Richmond.

Many historic homes in Richmond were preserved, like the Long-Smith Cottage (1937), John M. Moore's 1993 home, and the McNabb House (the 1850s).
