Tall Timbers TX History

In 1923, the River Oaks Country Club was built on a 375-acre tract on the south bank of Buffalo Bayou by three gentlemen. These are Thomas H. Ball, T.W. House Jr., and Thomas H. Guthrie. The club was located next to a 113-acre weekend camp called Tall Timbers, owned by Mike Hogg.

A real estate company called Country Club Estates was created to sell shares and lay out a subdivision on the property. When the sales period expired, Mike Hogg and Hugh Potter bought the unsold lots. Will Hogg, Mike's brother, then arranged to buy out the stock of Country Club Estates. He then formed a corporation called Widee Realty Company.

He, Mike, and Potter proceeded to acquire more land, extending the property west to Tall Timbers. The acquired land also has extended to the east to Shepherd's Dam Road and south to Westheimer Road. The northern part of the property bordered Buffalo Bayou, across from Memorial Park.

Today, Tall Timbers is one of the most desired subdivisions within River Oaks. Residents of this exclusive subdivision enjoy its central location and accessibility.
