Rosharon TX History


Rosharon Neighborhood

Previously known as Buttermilk Station, Rosharon had no name until 1859. It wasn't until the Columbia Tap Railroad had been built. One of its stops was given the name Masterson's Station in honor of the owner of a nearby plantation.

After some time, George Wetmore Colles purchased land close to the site around 1900. Having Cherokee roses nearby, he named his property—and ergo the town— Rose of Sharon Garden Ranch. Later, the town's name was blended to Rosharon.

George was able to create a thriving community in Rosharon. Starting from a post office down to opening a private school and a church tavern for the people.
