Currently, most Sugar Land neighborhoods that could potentially be prone to flooding are protected with a vast levee system.

In 2017, a tornado struck the Sienna Plantation neighborhood and caused damage to as many as 50 homes and the Ridge Point High School. This is not a regular occurrence but may be a factor when choosing homes in Sugar Land.
