Neighborhood Guide: Tanglewood Houston

The affluent neighborhood of Tanglewood is nestled in the area south of the Buffalo Bayou, just outside Loop 610.

It sits north of the Galleria/Uptown area, east of Briargrove, southwest of Stablewood, and south of Hunters Creek Village. Tanglewood homes are minutes away from Memorial Drive, San Felipe Street, Loop 610, and Katy Freeway.

Developed in the 1930s and 40s, the west Houston neighborhood initially featured 7 ranch-style homes in its first section. Fourteen additional sections followed suit.

Each Tanglewood home was equipped with air conditioning, and each lot had 2 oak trees. Additional oaks were planted around the neighborhood.

Today, Tanglewood is one of Houston’s wooded neighborhoods. Thanks to its deed restrictions and homeowners association, the neighborhood has also managed to maintain its peaceful vibe.

Though mainly residential, the neighborhood is located near some of Houston’s best retail, dining, and entertainment hubs. Hundreds of upscale boutiques, stores, bars, and restaurants in the Galleria and Uptown Park are located minutes away from Tanglewood homes.

Memorial Park, Houston’s largest urban parks, is also a short drive away from the neighborhood. Sights within the park include the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center, and the Memorial Park Golf Course.

Tanglewood is within the 77056 and 77057 zip codes of Harris County.
