Nestled within the lush Memorial West area, the Tealwood neighborhood is made up of 172 single-family homes. The neighborhood sits on the southwest corner of Gessner and Memorial, the eastern half is within Bunker Hill Village, while the west section is within Houston city limits.
According to the Tealwood Homeowners Association, 82 homes are within Bunker Hill and 90 homes are within Houston. The community is divided into 3 sections.
Though mainly residential, Tealwood is located blocks away from the bustling retail and entertainment areas along Beltway 8 (Sam Houston Parkway) and Interstate 10 (Katy Freeway). Memorial City Mall, the CityCentre Plaza, and Town & Country Village are among most popular shopping centers in the area.
Key business centers are also easily accessible from Tealwood homes. Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center and the cluster of offices and businesses along I-10 are a mile away from the neighborhood. Westchase District, home to several oil and energy companies, is a 15-minute drive away. The Energy Corridor and the Galleria are accessible via the many major arteries (Memorial Drive, Westheimer Road, I-10, Beltway 8 and Westpark Tollway) nearby.

Prior to its development during the 1950s and 1960s, the Memorial area was mostly rural, with a few timber mills, farms, and homes scattered throughout the vast and verdant areas around the Buffalo Bayou. Post-WWII saw a housing boom in Houston and development moved west.
Subdivisions like Tealwood broke ground during this period. Today, homes in Memorial are among the most coveted in the state.
Tealwood’s homes were mostly built between the mid-1960s to the early 1980s. The neighborhood has an active homeowners association.
The neighborhood’s distinct three ducks logo first appeared in Tealwood’s first newsletter in 1991. Later, Bob Longmire redesigned the logo to reflect Tealwood’s three sections. The “three duck overlapping logo” adorns the neighborhood’s sign, website, and newsletter.
Tealwood residents can enjoy top-tier establishment right outside its borders, with dozens of restaurants, cafes, bars, and other shops scattered throughout the bustling centers along I-10 and Beltway 8.
Some of Houston’s best shopping centers are within minutes from the neighborhood, including Memorial City Mall, Town & Country Village, and the CityCentre Plaza.
Located some blocks north of Tealwood, the Memorial City Mall is one of the older shopping centers in the area. It first opened its doors in the 1960s and was renovated in the early 2000s. The mall is home to over 140 stores, restaurants, and commercial establishments. Its anchor stores include Macy’s, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Target, and Sears.
Other points of interest include the Lantern Lane Shopping Center, Bendwood Park, and the Terry Hershey Park Hike and Bike Trail.
