Made up of around 700 single-family homes, Collegeview is located in West University Place, one of Houston’s most expensive neighborhoods.
Four sections in the city of West University Place is known as Collegeview – 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. These neighborhoods sit south of Bissonnet Street, and north of Bellaire/Holcombe Boulevard.
Collegeview 1st and 3rd sits east of Weslayan Road, while Collegeview 2nd and 4th are west of it. The city of Southside Place is just east of the neighborhood (Houston lies north and south). Another independent city, Bellaire, is a few blocks west of Collegeview.
The neighborhood is centrally located along busy roads and near some of West U’s parks, including Colonial Park, Friends Park, and Huffington Park. Colonial Park, the largest in West U’s park system, covers around 3 acres and features a swimming pool, a weight room, two lighted tennis courts, and a walking/jogging trail.
Retail and entertainment areas are also nearby, including Braes Heights Shopping Center and Weslayan Plaza. Rice Village, a 16-block retail center, is about a mile away. For more dining and entertainment options, Collegeview residents can take a short drive to the Galleria (about 3 miles away).
The Galleria features around 2 million square feet of leasable space, and is home to more than 300 boutiques, retail stores, restaurants, cafes, and bars. The area is also one of Houston’s major employment centers, with over 23 million square feet of office space.
The Texas Medical Center is also within 3 miles away. The large medical complex is home to more than 50 hospitals, academic institutions, and research facilities and has more around 100,000 employees and volunteers.

Collegeview homes are zoned to the Houston Independent School District (HISD).
Established in the 1920s, Houston ISD is the largest school district in the state (with 283 schools). The Texas Education Agency (TEA) gave the district a “Met Standard” rating in 2016. HISD features several International Baccalaureate (IB) World schools, including Lamar High School.
West University Elementary School is a few blocks away from the neighborhood. Pershing Middle School and Lamar High School are in nearby Braeswood Place and Upper Kirby, respectively.

While many of the neighborhood’s older homes have been torn down in favor of new construction, some have been updated and extensively renovated.
Collegeview homes typically feature 2 to 4 bedrooms, spread over 1,000 to over 4,000 square feet. The area’s most expensive real estate in the neighborhood can offer 5-bedroom floor plans with living spaces upwards of 5,000 square feet.

The city of West University Place was developed by former Tennessee governor Ben Hooper. The community was located well outside Houston city limits at the time. Houston was reluctant to extend city services, which led to West U residents to adopt a formal city charter.
Collegeview, along with the other sections that make up West U, was developed in sections around the 1930s. The community’s older homes date back to this period, though a number of them have been replaced with newer homes.
Today, Collegeview is among the most popular in the Greater Houston area. Great neighborhood schools, great accessibility, and beautiful homes continue to draw homebuyers to the area.
Collegeview residents have plenty of options for outdoor entertainment, retail, and dining.
Huffington Park, located at 6204 College Street, is within a few blocks from Collegeview homes. The .61-acre park features a playground, a shade arbor, and picnic tables.
Colonial Park (at 4130 Byron Street) covers more than 3 acres, and features a sand volleyball court, two lighted tennis courts, a swimming pool, a fitness/weight room, a pavilion, a playground, and a walking/jogging track.
