Located at the westernmost area of West University Place, Colonial Terrace is directly east of the city of Bellaire. Covering around 170 acres, the subdivision has around 550 homes.
The neighborhood sits south of Bissonnet Street, west of Wesleyan Street, north of Bellaire Boulevard, and east of train tracks. It is near where Loop 610 and Southwest Freeway meet.
Colonial Terrace homes are minutes away from retail, business, and employment centers. The Galleria/Uptown district is around 3 miles away, while the Greenway Plaza is only 2 miles north of the neighborhood.
The Texas Medical Center, one of Houston’s major employment centers, is less than 15 minutes away. The district features more than 50 hospitals, research facilities, and academic institutions with around 100,000 employees and volunteers.

Colonial Terrace homes are zoned to the Houston Independent School District (HISD).
Established in the 1920s, Houston ISD is the largest school district in the state (with 283 schools). The Texas Education Agency (TEA) gave the district a “Met Standard” rating in 2016. HISD features several International Baccalaureate (IB) World schools, including Lamar High School.
West University Elementary School is a few blocks away from the neighborhood. Pershing Middle School and Lamar High School are in nearby Braeswood Place and Upper Kirby, respectively.

The city of West University Place started out as a development well away from Houston. Ben Hooper, a former Tennessee governor, spearheaded the community’s growth in 1917. Named for its proximity to (what was then) Rice Institute, West University Place’s first lots sold the same year.
In 1924, the city of West University Place incorporated and adopted a formal city charter.
The community was developed in sections, and 26 subdivisions now make up the city, including Colonial Terrace.

Colonial Terrace, thanks to its location near where Loop 610 and Southwest Freeway meet, is minutes away from several shopping destinations, entertainment centers, and parks.
